The Isle of Man Astronomical Society was formed with the following aims and objectives:

- The promotion and encouragement of amateur astronomy.
- The provision and encouragement of activities related to the control of light pollution.
- The provision of mutual help amongst members with problems relating to astronomy.
- The promotion and organisation of events for the interest and enjoyment of members.
- The acquisition of land and the provision and maintenance of observatories and ancillary buildings for the use of members.
- All or any additional activities as may be necessary in the opinion of the Committee for the attainment of all or any of the foregoing purposes.
